1984 by George Orwell By Tony George I recently read the book 1984 by George Orwell. It is a dystopian novel which takes place in an alternate 1984 reality in which a totalitarian government monitors and regulates everyone's actions, emotions, and thoughts, to the point where everyone has become mindless sheep that worship Big Brother, the leader and total ruler of their everyday lives. The story follows the life of Winston Smith, a commoner who believes the government has gone too far, and wishes to bring an end to it. He begins secretly breaking rules, and must constantly look over his shoulder for if the government were to find him, a punishment far worse than death awaited. Winston was my favorite character for he had the courage to rise up against the masses for what he believed in. This book is a timeless classic that I would recommend to anyone and everyone. Not only is it fantastically written, but it is compelling from start to finish.
