No Country For Old Men by Cormac McCarthy By Tony George A book I recently read is No Country For Old Men by Cormac McCarthy This novel (genre: novel, realism, crime) is familiar to many because it has been made into a movie, but to appreciate the genius of the story you really must read the book. It is the story of a hapless, ordinary guy who stumbles upon the scene of a drug deal gone bad in the Texas desert. He is drawn into a situation beyond his control when he takes the drug money, inadvertently endangering his wife and mother-in-law, and incurring the wrath of the baddest hit man ever penned. The story alternates between the perspectives of the hapless ordinary guy, the hit man, and the town's aging law man. The writing is the best part - it is crisp and absolutely realistic. The cold-blooded hit man, Chigur, is my favorite character because he is so deadpan. I unreservedly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good read that you probably won't be able to put down from the moment you begin the tale till you turn the last page.
