The Crush by Sandra Brown
By Tony George
I really didn't like the book The Crush, by Sandra Brown. I read it because I thought it was going to be a mystery novel with a little bit of eroticism in it, but it ended up dwelling obnoxiously on the eroticism. The plot follows the story of a female doctor who served on a jury, and then gets stalked by the criminal that the jury failed to convict. The renegade ex-cop who is protecting her is the worst element of the story: he's brash, rude, controlling, and really obnoxious. I had a lot of difficulty rooting for him as a hero. The worst part, though, was that the doctor's horses get killed by the criminal, and instead of being upset about it, the ex-cop promptly has sex with the doctor in the barn. I found that appalling and, frankly, not believable. That's why I wish I had never read it. Books that I enjoy, like Agatha Christie's mystery Sleeping Murders, feature believable characters that don't go around having obnoxious sex all the time. |
