The Secret History by donna tart By Tony George A book that I didn't like is "The Secret History" by Donna Tartt at all. A co-worker raved about it, so I picked it up and thought it was incredibly dull and middle-brow. It made me think of the movie "Heathers," with the mysterious trenchcoat wearing protagonist that I spent most of the film (or book) wanting to slap upside the head. In contrast to "The Secret History", Umberto Eco's books such as "Foucault's Pendulum" and "Baudolino" are tremendous, full of esoteric references that make them worth reading again and again.
